Tax values were rising prior to this time as to all properties in the area, and the Morrow children were making livings in town and elsewhere. The subdivisions were getting closer, yet the extensive Forest Service property still protected the Morrow property.
When a conservation group, called the Windy Gap Twelve, wanted to buy it and conserve it, the Morrows sold it in 1976 except for a small piece still currently held by the family.
