Overlook at Sapphire Lots
(Only 7 lots remain as of June 2022. Please see the page on “Prices & Acreage” for those that remain, as some of the best views and prices are still available. For Seller-Financing Information, please see below.**)
Bald Rock Overlook
Bald Rock Mountain is famous for the mining activities at its base almost 200 years ago and for air training in the Vietnam war. This lot has excellent views of Sapphire Valley and into the Cashiers Valley, and some longer-range views in between peaks and ridges. This very large lot is close to where Henry Scadin built his cabin and where the Morrow family built their Stickley home in 1905. (See the “History” page)
Bear Wallow Overlook
Bear Wallow is the area between Sapphire/Toxaway and Overlook. This largest of the lots has a small creek and sweeping views. A path goes to a proposed house site, with numerous trees removed to open up even a Summer view. It is likely the most secluded lot and perfect for someone who wants to watch wildlife and enjoy natural resources in such privacy.
Toxaway Overlook
This is one of the finest lots in Overlook and is one with the most interest. It was retained by prior owners as their personal favorite. Acreage was added to this lot to make it bigger and even more secluded and private. The views are stunning and it is a very easy drive in to it. There are several home sites where it would be easy to build. Long-range views go from the NW to SE, well beyond the closer mountains.
Parkway Overlook
This lot is the highest on both knobs (over 3800’ above sea level), is at the top of the eastern Rainy Knob and has 360° views in the Winter and almost that in the Summer. Acreage was also added to this lot to make it much larger and more private. You can literally see almost everywhere from this lot, but the very best long-range views are from the North to Southeast, with the glow of Asheville and the Blue-Ridge Parkway in between.
Three Lakes Overlook
This lot is also one of the finest, also considered by some to be the best lot, with an easy drive to a stunning view into SC from a south, southwest vantage point. It is bordered mostly by national forest and from several great building spots you can see some of all 3 lakes in SC/GA, Jocassee, Keowee and Hartwell. It has always been a favorite place for locals and others to visit, hike and camp before it became Overlook.
Keowee Overlook
This lot has also been combined with most of another adjacent lot to provide much more privacy, easier access, and several choices for locations of a home with views. The best views are to the south and southwest overlooking two of the lakes in SC. It is at the end of a cul de sac so the habitat is full of natural resources. Other than one adjacent lot, it is completely surrounded by US forest service property.
Carolina Overlook
Carolina Overlook was named because it not only has long-range views, it looks straight into SC over the national forest adjacent to it. This is a lot also selected and retained by a prior owner as one of the finest and his personal favorite. There is an easy drive from Windy Gap Lane in the lot and several possible building locations based on what the priorities are, the higher the better view. Trees have also been cleared for views. There is a large rock outcropping on this lot as well.
Old Homestead Overlook
This is where the Morrows built their Stickley-syle home around 1902-1905. This was selected because of the lay of the lot, the great views and a spring on the property. The home was one-of-a-kind in the area and was most assuredly visited by photographers, engineers, investors and others. Please see the interesting “History” page about this lot and what happened to the old home. Today it is one of the finest lots in the community!
Headwaters Overlook
This is one of the largest lots in Overlook, and a path has been roughed in to a site where trees have been removed to show a beautiful home site where there are stunning views of SC Jocassee Gorges Natural Area and several lakes. It is only surrounded by adjacent lots and the Nantahala National Forest, so it is a flora and wildlife lover’s dream. A portion of an adjacent lot was added to make access and building even more practical, along with greater seclusion and privacy.
Whitewater Overlook
Like Headwaters Overlook, Whitewater Overlook is all about nature, long-range views, easy access, seclusion and privacy. This is a very large lot with views into SC, Jocassee Gorges State Park and the lakes. As with most every lot in Overlook, there is a natural drive into a lovely home site where even more views are available toward the top of the western Rainy Knob. This lot has views from southeast to southwest, with the national forest as its boundary neighbor.
Jocassee Overlook
Most people consider this lot as the finest lot in Overlook, and is a primary reason why Overlook was purchased. It is at the very end of its own cul de sac, so it is also secluded and private. This lot has been significantly increased in size so that it includes the top of the western Rainy Knob, and like Lot 4, there are 360 ° views in the Winter, and trees have been cut for excellent Summer views as well. It is likely that the glow of Clemson football game lights can be seen at night from this lot.
Nantahala Overlook
This large lot, which was also combined with part of another lot, has beautiful views to the west and north with its stunning sunsets over the mountains and with beautiful shadows and reflections seen at a distance. This is the western-most lot in the community, so it overlooks Nantahala National Forest and other mountains to the west and north It has a cleared path for an easy long drive in and a lot with trees removed for beautiful views. This lot is great for a secluded retreat.
North Star Overlook
This lot has two ways to access with a beautiful building spot in the middle. It is named because you can see mountains from the west to the east, with the beautiful sights of Sapphire to the north. A perfect home may be one in the modern-craftsman style with large windows and rustic touches, along with several floors of living. It is named because of the beautiful views at night in addition to the day.
Windy Gap Overlook
The area around Overlook is called Windy Gap, and this lot is just on the west side of the gap, with lovely views from west to east. It is just across the street from the Old Homestead lot and local lore suggest that it was also one of the prized areas for that some of the original owners used for location, topography and sweeping views. Like North Star Overlook lot, there may be two ways to access this one as well.
